To ensure your food stays below 40 degrees Fahrenheit, surround it with ice in your cooler. The FDA recommends this temperature for safe food storage. For best results, always layer your items with a top layer of ice. Using plenty of ice will help maintain colder temperatures and prolong the life of your ice.

Remember to keep the lid closed to keep the cold air in and the hot air out. Pre-chill your food and drinks before placing them in the cooler to extend their freshness. Additionally, keeping your cooler in the shade will prevent it from heating up quickly in direct sunlight or extreme heat.

For the most effective ice layout, layer your items from bottom to top: Food, Ice, Food, Ice. Always make sure that ice is the top layer for optimal preservation. Freeze or pre-chill all food before placing it in the cooler, and surround and top it with ice for maximum cooling.
